Anant Theatre Group

Yes, I am Room no.33.

‘Anant’ the never ending journey is an expression that has become synonymous with the theatre goup of Maharaja Agrasen College. A modest beginning that was made on November 14 1998, almost eight years back, under the leadership of Gaurav Srivastava and Tripti Dewda, Trivendera Chauhan and Saurav Sharma, Anant has gained recognition and respect.

From the very beginning, the group focused on street theatre. Now in case you don’t know, a street play is performed by actors, at the street corners. Their basic job is to bring social issues into public awareness. Anant considers it a medium to reach out to the people. And that was the reason they did not confine themselves to giving performances in the college. They also gave professional performances for NGOs like UNIFEM and CAFF.

Starting from the play Ek Khamosh Cheekh based on female foeticide, which consecutively won seven Inter College competitions, Anant came up with more plays on social issues like, Bhram, BahaV, Jang to Hogi, Ek Khoj, Manthan And Ek Sachaayi Yeh Bhi Hai, based on casteism, communal violence, democracy and child abuse. Their performances have not only been applauded but have been awarded at various competitions.

Anant has recently made a new addition to its repertoire: Teesra Sach. This play too has been very well received. This play was performed at IIT Delhi and Kamla Nehru College.

Anant provides a suitable launching pad to the aspiring artist in you, but it is not just about acting. Of course it brings alive the entire experience of a play, right from the context, content, framework, dialogues, presentation, choreography and even songs that are all collectively evolved and worked out; but more than that, it is a bond of trust and love and respect in each other’s lives and in the collective identity of the group. It is about togetherness and unity and belief in the word and the conviction that it can affect change.

So buddy, thanks for considering me a friend. Though I am just a room, you have patiently listened to me. Now, let me give you a friendly advice. Join Anant if you can for Anant can give you a true taste of life. Life is like an ice-cream, enjoy before it melts.

Extra Curricular Committee: Annual Report

Extra Curricular events play a significant role in the life of every educational institution. These events not only provide students with a platform to express themselves and realize their talents; they also go a long way in shaping a balanced and all rounded personality. The cultural calendar of Maharaja Agrasen College, too, was therefore paid special attention.

The initiating event was the Freshers’ Welcome Social, organized in the first week of August itself. A spectacular event in its own right, it marked the formal initiation of freshers into the institution and provided them with an opportunity to showcase their talents.

On January 10, 2007, the eagerly awaited Annual Cultural Festival was organized in the college premises. Sh. Sandeep Dixit was the chief guest of the event. PLEXUS-2007 was a day long saturnalia characterized by the fervour of our spirited youngsters, intent on making most of their own special day. Several programmes were organized as part of this mega event. There were departmental programmes, choreography competition, fashion pageants, antkshari, rangoli, face painting competition. Mehendi competition etc. There was enormous enthusiasm in the students, who participated in events in considerable numbers.  The high point of the evening was indeed the spellbinding performance of Ghazal singer Sakhawat Hussein Khan. Over all, a memorable day made memorable made memorable by the joint efforts of the students, teachers, and staff  members. Sincere thanks are due to all of them.
